Chapter Questions 1-6

Chapter 1 and 2
1.Identify the following characters
a.Lennie-Forgetful, innocent, childlike, disabled
b.George-Caring, worried, older brother like
c.Curley-Jalous, protective, easily irritated
d.Slim-Leader, authority, respected, experienced
2.Why does Lennie like mouse and similar animals?
Lennie likes them because its soft and can pet them.
3.a.When did George meet Lennie?
In Selinas when he was a child.
b.From his actions how do you think George feels about Lennie?
I think George treats Lennie like his little brother, even if he says he wouldn't want to be his relative he is really happy to be with him, and it doesn't matter if Lennie is stupid or smart.
c.Why do you think George takes care of Lennie?
I think George takes care of Lennie because he know he has no one else and that he isn't able to live by himself because he needs help.
4.Describe the dream George and Lennie share.
Their dream is that one day they will have a little house and a couple of acres and animals such as cows, pigs and rabbits, and Lennie take care of the rabbits
5.What did Lennie do in Weed to get in trouble?
Lennie, cought a girls dress, and when she started to screaming he paniced and held on to the dress

Chapter 3 and 4
1. Why doesnt Candy want to kill his dog?
He doesn't want to kill his dog because he had him since he was a pup, and his dog made him feel like he wasn't lonely.
Are Candy's feelings understandable? Have you ever felt very attached to an old or sick animal that had to be put to sleep? Explain your feelings.
Yes, i have been attached to a dog, his head got hit by a car while I was in school, when i came home i asked my parents where he was and they he was at the vet, they said he was "sleeping" at that he probably wasn't going to wake up, i asked to see him one more time but they refused. The next few days the house felt empty without him, I knew him since I was born, and I was very attached to him.
Why does Candy say later on that he should have shot his dog himself and not let a stranger do it?
Candy was the one who loved him the most, and if someone had to kill him for his good it should have been him.
2. Why did Curley pick on Lennie?
Curley picked on Lennie because he is tall, and Lennie laughed at the wrong moment
Describe Curley's main problem in your opinion.
Curley's main problem is jalousy because he doesnt want anyone to go near his wife or even talk to her; he treats her like an object.
Why didn't Lennie fight back at first when Curley hit him?
Lennie didn't fight back because George told him not to get in trouble or else he wouldn't get to tend the rabbits.
What happened to Curley as a result of picking on Lennie?
Curley got his hand crushed
3. How does Crooks react to Lennie's appearance at the door of his room?
Crooks first thought he was there to make fun of him, just like everyone else.
Crooks says people at the ranch don't like him because
People don't like him because he is black
Crooks invites Lennie to stay and talk with him because
He saw that Lennie didn't want to harm him, and that he wasn't there to judge him.

Chapter 5 and 6
1. What things does Lennie do or say that shows he is mentally retarded? List at least three specific acts or incidents
-He grabbed the girl's dress
-He killed the pup
-He killed Curley's wife

2.a. Is George's treatment of Lennie fair? Explain.
Yes, because he doesn't take advantage of him, and he helps Lennie to get out of trouble.
b. Is George's treatment of Lennie understandable? Explain.
Yes, because no one wants to be alone, he had Lennie and Lennie had him.
c. Could he have helped him more? How?
I think George did as much as he could.
3. How do these characters treat Lennie and why? Give on incident for each that shows his/her treatment him more? How?
a. Candy
he treats him equally, when it was just Lennie and Candy talking Candy was interested he was nice to him
b. Curley's wife
She treats him like an disabled man and tries to take advantage of him
c. Crooks
First he thought he was like the other man of the ranch then he realized he wouldn't harm him or anything, when Lennie came in his room.
what do they all have in common? (Why do they all talk to him?)
Everybody at the ranch are alone, Candy lost his dog, none of the men have a partener, but Lennie has a partener, George.
4. Why does Lennie kill the puppy and later the girl?
Lennie killed the puppy and the girl because he paniced.
5. Do you think Lennie had to be shot? What were some other alternatives? What would
have happened to Lennie if George hadn't shot him?
Lennie would have been killed anyway by Curley. I think Lennie didn't diserve to die like that, but it was a good think because they would have had to move again and the same thing would have happened

6.How is the killing of Lennie similar to the killing of Candy's dog? Why do you think George killed Lennie himself instead of letting the men do it?
Lennie had to killed for his good just like Candy's dog, but George prefered to kill him himself because he saw how much Candy regreted not killing his dog himself.
